What Happens When You Spend at Home?

In 2010, the Ord Area Chamber launched a concerted effort to support local business by promoting a buy local campaign called the Ord option. We posted earlier this month the preliminary results from the effort: by conservative estimates, the Ord Option kept $37,750 dollars in the local economy during the fall/holiday shopping season. While we were pleased with this number, it was also an incomplete analysis of the Chamber’s positive impact on local businesses in 2010.

The Ord Area Chamber also promotes buy local efforts with the ChamberBucks program – a longstanding local currency that keeps local dollars turning in the local economy.  2010 was a banner year for ChamberBucks sales: over $44,000 in ChamberBucks were sold. The local economic impact of the Chamber totaled $81,750 in 2010.

$81,750.

While the Chamber can take credit for the development of these programs; you the consumer is the one that deserves all the accolades. Your belief in these programs, your support of the local business community and your dedication to your hometown will certainly make us stronger.

The question remains – what happens when you spend at home? Major improvements to the Ord community is a start. There is a reason why progress happens everyday in Ord Nebraska. It’s people like you that continue to invest time and again in your hometown.

We owe you some major gratitude – thank you for believing in Ord. Now on to 2011!
