Space is limited for dinner & concert tickets. At 7:00 pm, the Switchgrass Band will perform a concert featuring an eclectic mix of American roots music infused with bluegrass style pop, rock and blues. Switchgrass is a reuniting of two local families, the Bakers and Andersons, that have been on a musical journey for several decades. Band members include Steffan Baker, Colin Baker, Christy Peterson, and Cindy Uden.
Steffan Baker, son of the late Dr. George and Lil Baker of Ord, started performing on stage with his dad as a young child. Steff grew to be proficient on several instruments, including guitar, mandolin, and banjo, and he built and designed the mandolin and banjo he will be playing on stage. He spent several years in Nashville as a performer and writer. One of his songs, “He’ll Take You In, co-written with Billy Smith, was recorded by the late great Bill Monroe. Colin Baker, joined the family tradition and started playing the upright bass while standing on a washtub to reach the strings, as a child. Upon returning to the Ord area, Colin began playing the old bass again and adds his vocal and instrumental talent to the band.
Christy Peterson and Cindy Uden are daughters of the late Bob and Bonnie Anderson of Ord. Like the guys, they grew up playing in a family band. They learned to sing harmony with each other while doing dishes at the kitchen sink. Over the years, as the family band progressed, their mom would say, “Somebody needs to learn to play this or that instrument. It would sound good on this song.” So, as was needed, song by song, they learned to play a variety of instruments, as well. Brian Feis, Christy’s husband, adds some great vocal talent to Switchgrass. The band has been able to add a variety of music and harmonies, upon the addition of Brian.
