The Loup Valley Childhood Initiative (LVCI), in partnership with Valley County Economic Development (VCED), is proud to announce the launch of the Child Care Capacity & Workforce Stipend Program, a new funding opportunity designed to strengthen and expand childcare services across Valley County.
This competitive reimbursement stipend aims to increase the availability of licensed childcare by supporting both new and existing providers with start-up and expansion costs. Funding for the program is made possible through a combination of local sales tax dollars and federal funding, reinforcing the community’s commitment to addressing childcare needs and supporting working families.
Eligible applicants may receive up to $5,000 to assist with expenses directly tied to increasing licensed childcare capacity. Covered costs include equipment, safety improvements, training, and certain start-up expenses. Minor facility modifications required for licensing and safety compliance may also qualify.
“This program is an important step toward addressing the childcare shortage in Valley County,” said VCED Business Coach Katie Walmsley “By investing in childcare, we’re investing in our workforce, our families, and the long-term vitality of our community.”
To qualify, applicants must operate—or plan to operate—a licensed childcare business within Valley County and commit to participating in the Step Up to Quality program within one year. Fund recipients must also agree to remain in operation for a minimum of three years.
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis through December 31, 2026, and will be reviewed monthly by members of the LVCI and VCED.
Childcare providers interested in applying are encouraged to submit a completed application along with a project description, proof of licensing (if applicable), and cost estimates for proposed expenses.
