For 25 years, Grandview Assisted & Independent Living has been more than just a senior living community—it has been a place where friendships flourish, independence is encouraged, and compassionate care helps residents continue to live life to the fullest. As the Ord Area Chamber’s August Chamber Spotlight Business, we are proud to recognize Grandview for the extraordinary role it plays in enhancing the quality of life for seniors and strengthening our community.
Grandview’s story began with a vision. Local investors recognized the growing need for a modern senior living community in Ord and partnered with Ray Brown & Associates to bring that vision to life. The project was spearheaded by Lisa Nielsen, owner and operator of Corner Cottage Assisted Living, who understood that future generations of seniors deserved expanded housing options while remaining close to the community they loved.
That vision became reality on August 1, 2001, when 18 residents made the move from Corner Cottage Assisted Living into the newly completed Grandview Assisted & Independent Living. Within just six months, all 48 assisted living and independent living apartments were filled—a testament to the tremendous need for quality senior housing in Valley County.
Today, Grandview continues to be managed by Ray Brown & Associates under the guidance of a local board of directors. Daily operations are led by Administrator, Megan Cadek, Activity Director, Brenda Van Leer, and a dedicated team of professionals who share a common purpose: providing exceptional care while creating a warm, welcoming environment where every resident feels at home.
While the beautiful facility and comfortable apartments certainly make an impression, it is the people inside Grandview who truly make it special.
The caring staff build relationships that often feel more like family than caregivers. They celebrate birthdays, organize engaging activities, share meals, lend a helping hand, and create meaningful moments that enrich everyday life. Their compassion, patience, and dedication allow residents to maintain their dignity while receiving the support they need.
One of the greatest misconceptions about assisted and independent living is that moving into a senior living community means giving up independence. Grandview has spent the past quarter century proving just the opposite.
Residents continue to enjoy private apartments filled with their own furniture, treasured keepsakes, and personal memories. With daily chores, housekeeping, meal preparation, and maintenance taken care of, they have more time to pursue hobbies, build friendships, participate in activities, and enjoy life. Many residents become even more socially active after moving to Grandview, leading to improved physical, emotional, and overall well-being.

In 2025, Grandview received the Nebraska Health Care Association/Nebraska Assisted Living Association Programming Award for its National Assisted Living Week activities, recognizing the community’s outstanding efforts to provide innovative programming that encourages lifelong learning, social engagement, and joyful living.
Grandview continues to evolve alongside the needs of today’s seniors. Investments in facility improvements, enhanced technology, expanded wellness opportunities, transportation services, dining, and life-enrichment programming ensure residents receive high-quality care while maintaining as much independence as possible. Their commitment remains focused on helping seniors thrive today while preparing for the needs of future generations.
Beyond caring for its residents, Grandview also serves as an important economic driver for the Ord community. With an annual payroll of approximately $840,000, the organization supports dozens of local families whose earnings are reinvested throughout the area. Grandview also prioritizes working with local vendors, contractors, healthcare providers, restaurants, the local cross-country team, churches, and community businesses whenever possible, reinforcing the importance of shopping local and strengthening the local economy.
For many families, Grandview provides something even more valuable than quality housing—it provides peace of mind. Knowing a loved one is safe, cared for, socially connected, and able to continue living with dignity is a gift that extends well beyond the walls of the facility.
As Grandview celebrates 25 years of serving Ord and the surrounding communities, it stands as a shining example of what happens when a community invests in its people.
