One thing that makes small businesses so unique and special is their connection to families. Ancestry and quality time is woven throughout its fabric. It could be the reason an individual pursues their entrepreneurial dreams or keeps a legacy alive with a namesake. LUX by Leslie is a great example of kinship within small business.
LUX by Leslie got its start during difficult times, in spring 2020. When Leslie Sikyta suddenly found more time at home with her children, due to COVID home school protocols, they decided to start a new hobby…jewelry making. At first, Leslie and her daughters started making bracelets, which quickly grew into making earrings and necklaces. Which then led to designing graphic tees and sweatshirts. And so became LUX by Leslie. Over time, LUX by Leslie continued to evolve both as an online boutique and then eventually, a brick-and-mortar storefront in Downtown Ord. LUX by Leslie isn’t just the handiwork of the ladies of the Sikyta family though. “It is very much a family business as my husband Jake stays pretty involved in the designs we choose and make for jewelry”, stated Leslie. Her daughters remain a big part of LUX by Leslie today, continuing to assist with making bracelets. Leslie’s immediate family aren’t the only ones woven within LUX by Leslie though. If you’ve seen the logo for LUX by Leslie, you’ve noticed the beautiful viola flower that represents this business. This flower is to pay tribute to Leslie’s late grandmother, Viola.
Today, LUX by Leslie continues to grow. Since opening a storefront in Downtown Ord, LUX by Leslie added permanent jewelry to their list of products. Permanent Jewelry is a hot trend today and LUX offers a variety of chain styles for an affordable price. Simply set up an appointment with Leslie to get your trendy jewelry. You can even set up group appointments or host a permanent jewelry party! Not only has LUX by Leslie added this unique service, but they also opened a second location this year in the HomeWithin2 building in Downtown Kearney.
Since owning her own business, shopping local has taken on a new meaning for Leslie. “I find great joy in shopping local throughout the year and feel so blessed we have everything we have to offer in Ord with the businesses around the downtown square.”
Being a small business owner is tough and can sometimes mean making sacrifices in order to pursue your dream. But with a little creative thinking, like LUX by Leslie, family time doesn’t have to be one of those sacrifices.
