The event and the book, “Introducing Sandy Crane,” were inspired by the splendid Sandhill Crane migration each spring. Author Paula Warner is passionate about sharing the importance of migration paths, especially with small children who will inherit the task of caring for the water, wetlands, and grass. Warner feels cranes, geese, and other migratory birds are a marvel to watch and hear as they progress in their seasonal movement. She believes attention to nature is especially vital for children living in America’s vast crane migration corridor. Every March, over a million Sandhill Cranes converge on the Platte River Valley in central Nebraska to fuel up before continuing north to their nesting grounds. Fort Kearney State Historical Park and the Audubon’s Rowe Sanctuary are at the heart of this magnificent crane staging area. Warner’s book can be found at area libraries, local retailers, the Main Street Gallery, Fort Kearney, and the Great Plains River Road Archway Monument.
