CCC Ord Learning Center – July 2015 Chamber Member Spotlight #2

Central Community College (CCC) has generously invested in the Valley County area by creating valuable opportunities for residents and businesses at  the CCC Ord Learning Center. Central Community College expanded its educational services in the Ord Area in January of 2010.  In partnership with Greater Valley Loup Activities, Inc. (GLVA) and Valley County Economic Development (VCED), CCC renovated the former Hamilton Telecommunications Call Center in downtown Ord to establish the CCC Ord Learning Center.  The expanded facilities increased the quantity and quality of educational opportunities in the area.  In September of 2010, CCC was awarded a$175,105 grant funded by United States Department of Agriculture, Rural Community Development Initiative.  “Regional Strategies for Growing Sustainable Communities” focused on building community and economic capacity in Valley, Sherman and Greeley counties. Central Community College, in cooperation with the Nebraska Community Foundation, Heartland Center for Leadership Development and the Center for Rural Entrepreneurship successfully completed the grant project in October 2014.

The OLC has seen tremendous growth in educational offerings and opportunities for the area communities. The center now provides year-round Nursing Assistant and Medication Aide Training and offers a number of CPR/AED classes for Health Care Professionals and the General Public. The CCC Ord Learning Center Scholarship was formed to assist Valley County and area CCC students and is funded by donations received from The Big Give to Valley County. A new event, Career Discovery Day, was established to assist high school juniors in making academic and career decisions to meet their career goals. Successful completion of the RCDI project expanded CCC’s offerings and created new opportunities for career and technical training, academic and career planning services, professional and continuing education, entrepreneur and business succession planning, youth programming and easier access to higher education in the region.

The Ord Learning Center facility contains two classrooms, a computer lab, multi-purpose area and conference room/ distance learning room, and Nursing Assistant/Medication Aide Lab. The Ord Learning Center also offers COMPASS testing, GED preparation and academic advising.   RammCCCphoto

The success of the Ord Learning Center is a direct result of the many different partnerships formed and developed over the past five years with businesses, organizations and people throughout the area. The CCC Ord Learning Center has partnered with community organizations to ensure the success of events such as the Big Give to Valley County, Business Discovery Day and Synovation Valley Leadership Academy. We are dedicated to creating and maintaining these community partnerships while supporting local businesses and resources in all possible ways.
