August Chamber Spotlight- Synovation Valley Leadership Academy

Everyone assumes they are done with learning when they graduate, whether it’s high school, college, or some other learning experience. As the old saying goes, “you learn something new every day”. Sometimes, there are skills in school that we just don’t learn. Synovation Valley Leadership Academy teaches those skills, in a non-traditional environment.

SVLA calls itself a leadership development program, but deep down they are a personal development program, assisting their participants to live their best life. SVLA (Synovation Valley Leadership Academy) is a program that is hosted annually at Central Community College Ord Center. The program was first released in September of 2013, taught by Dr. Denise Trudeau Poskas. SVLA was established as a 501c3 (non-profit) organization in 2015. Unlike most programs, which utilize knowledge-only based classes or training, SVLA’s programs are experiential, adventurous, energized, and full of supportive coaching experiences that empower participants to truly transform their lives.  The coaching techniques combine neurolinguistics, neuroscience, positive psychology, leadership, and emotional intelligence to go beyond sharing knowledge into developing one’s capacity for change, building optimistic workplaces and creating new levels of influence. Their programs help people learn time management, including, time mastery, learning time chunking, and freedom from being overwhelmed with time. Overall, SVLA supports participants exploring and developing the best of themselves.

There are many places SVLA could have their program located, like Lincoln or Omaha. Thanks to an established program based in Lincoln though, local leaders who identified the need for a leadership program were introduced to the curriculum of Dr. Denise Trudeau Poskas.  Combining Dr. Dee’s passion for rural communities and the love these local leaders for Valley County, leadership curriculum was brought here to Valley County and SVLA was born.

SVLA is an annual program that runs September through March, during which participants meet monthly. In the 2023-2024 season, there will be several learning opportunities for participants locally, regionally, and nationally.  The first is a level one introductory course, titled “Transforming Possibilities“.  Participants will first learn all about themselves and how to celebrate who they are.  They take various evaluations, from the Myers Briggs Personality types test to the Emotional Intelligence assessment.  Using this knowledge of themselves, they then learn how to change their perspective on different things. The next level is “Integrative Communication“, which builds on Level 1 and focus on how we communicate and what’s important to ourselves. Participants will learn new ways to communicate, how to handle stress, and how to improve communication. For those looking for a higher-level course, SVLA offers EQ Edge and Edge Squared. These classes combine the first two classes together and helps outline how business leaders can make their space safe, useful, and ready to go. This course specially supports business leaders who desire to cultivate a transparent and efficient working culture and advance their next financial or business milestone.  A new addition to this year’s EQ Edge and Edge Squared will be a 3-day retreat.

Even though SVLA is a decade old, they still have plans to grow. Last year, coaching dimensions was added. This course guides participants through experiential exercises that deepen and personalize their understanding of the mental fitness tools and coaching tools specifically designed to work with people at an engaging nonresistant way.  A new addition for the 2023-24 session is Master Class, a course that is offered online. Participants in Master Class will receive four mastermind webinars, a personalized leadership development plan, Strength Finder, a one-on-one coaching session with Dr. Dee, and an accountability session. In addition to these new courses, satellite locations will be added which will allow participants outside of Valley County to get the interaction and teaching they would as if they were sitting in the CCC Ord Center with all other participants.

SVLA likes to interact with people who want to get informed on how to develop themselves. Whether that’d be moms, dads, siblings, friends, entrepreneurs, or business owners, SVLA is adaptable to all your needs.
