129 Year-Old Business Transitioning Owners

(Ord, NE) – More major changes are coming to Ord’s downtown business district. Clay and Jennifer Ramsey of Sidney (formerly of Ord and St. Paul, respectively) will be purchasing both Misko Sports locations in Ord and Kearney, Nebraska. Clay, Jennifer and their three daughters will be moving to Ord this summer as part of the transition process.

Misko Sports, a 129-year old tradition in Ord

Clay has been with Cabela’s Inc. for 11 years, working in retail, purchasing, Outdoor Adventures and has been in the e-commerce division for the last 7 years.

Misko Sports has been an anchor business in Ord since 1882, when it was founded by family patriarch Frank Misko. Misko Sports has been owned and operated by four generations of Miskos and will be transition to Clay and Jennifer this summer. Misko Sports will retain its name in full, and the Ramsey’s expect to host a Grand Reopening this summer.

“We’re incredibly happy!” remarks Mr. Ramsey. “This opportunity is special for us on many different levels.  The Ord area is home for my wife and I, and Misko Sports is where I bought my first baseball glove, my first pair of football shoes and my first shotgun.  We’re very excited to be coming back to the community and equally excited to continue the business tradition of Misko Sports.”

“This project is a tremendous boost to downtown Ord and our surrounding area,” says Caleb Pollard, Valley County Economic Development Director. “With the transition of Misko Sports, our community keeps a 129 year-old founding downtown business open and in operation for the foreseeable future. This is a huge win for Ord and Valley County, and I’m ecstatic that we were able to close the deal. This project is also a testament to the importance of community partners; without the Miskos, Bob Stowell, the Sales Tax Loan Committee and Ord City Council, this project would have never happened.”

This project was made possible in part from economic development loan funds provided by the City of Ord and has been in development for nearly a year.
